Eat Right at School Program
With now more than one quarter of the children in Australia either overweight or obese something is obviously wrong with what we eat and what we send our children off to school in their lunches with.
Consider this – being overweight is the number one reason for a child to be bullied in Australia.
Our Eat Right at School Program is designed to teach kids about fruit and vegetables, seeds and nuts and also teach them how to understand ingredients in processed foods. The sessions are short (normally no more than 2 hours) and provide hands-on learning for kids as well as teachers, parents are also welcome to attend. Be prepared though, once kids know how to use a magnifying glass on the back of packets and a code book, there will be no turning back – we will all be on notice as to what we buy!
In the Eat Right at School Program you will learn:
- how to understand nutritional information panels and ingredient lists on packaged foods
- understand the difference between whole foods and processed foods
- how to make delicious ‘fast food’
- how to make delicious ‘takeaway, portable food’
- how to include something green at each meal, in the lunchbox and snacks at home
- how to turn your back on beige food and embrace real food
Students will be involved in preparing samples made with fresh, organic ingredients and will create the food, then serve it to fellow students, parents and teachers.
Recipes are included.
